Week 44 (27 Oct - 2 Nov): Eyes on the Prize

What is heaven to you?

To a child, heaven is magical and fun—a place with no worries. To an adult, heaven is harmony, peace, and joy—a place where we enjoy eternal communion with God.

Last Saturday at our onsite service, Dr Andrea Choo shared from several verses in Revelation that paint a breathtaking picture of heaven:

  • Revelation 21:18–23 – a place filled with beauty beyond imagination, radiant with God’s glory

  • Revelation 21:4 – a world free from pain, sin and death

  • Revelation 22:1–2 – flowing with life and healing

  • Revelation 7:9 – home to God and His people forever

“God’s dwelling place is now among His people, and He will dwell with them.”

What a wonderful promise, that we will one day live in God’s own home.

AW Tozer wrote:“God’s presence in heaven is the ultimate reality, and our experience of it will be the greatest joy of eternity.”

Many still believe their place in heaven is earned through doing good and living well. We know the truth: the only way to eternal life is by accepting and believing in Jesus Christ. By His grace, we are saved; made His children and assured of a place in His kingdom. (Ephesians 2:8–9)

We all understand the idea of a prize. In any race or competition, most of us fix our eyes on that reward.

So what is the prize we are truly after?

I remember running a race once. My only goal was to reach the finish line—and hopefully win something. I did finish, but there was no prize waiting for me. It was disappointing. Looking back, I probably did not prepare or persevere enough.

In our spiritual race, preparation matters too:

  • Put on the right gear (Ephesians 6 — the armour of God)

  • Focus on what lies ahead

  • Run to finish well

We are running toward the prize of “God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.” So we invite the Holy Spirit into our lives, stay rooted in God’s Word, and continually nurture a close and intimate walk with Him.

Perseverance is key. We run the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus. We walk with a community that encourages us, strengthens us, and reflects Christ’s likeness as we journey together.

We also leave behind whatever slows our steps—unforgiveness, fear, guilt, shame, grumbling, worldly attachments, overindulgence, and ungodly relationships. Anything that weighs down our pursuit of God.

Let God be the centre of our lives. Walk closely with the Spirit (Galatians 5:13–14). Share His love, grace, and mercy with everyone we meet.

2 Corinthians 4:18 reminds us:

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

May we continue to run this race with purpose, eyes on the prize that will never fade—and hearts anchored in the One who has gone ahead to prepare our eternal home.

Blessings,

Jacob's Well
