Week 3 (12 - 18 Jan): Jesus Our Saviour and Lord

Last week, RT1 wrote about the Triune God — Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit — perfectly united in love and purpose, a message shared by Dr Robbie Goh. This is the core belief of Christianity, and at the heart of it is Jesus. This week, Ps Eng Siong talked about how Jesus is fully God — our Saviour, our Lord, and our coming King. He is above all powers, all authorities, all kings, and all things. Jesus’ worth is beyond measure.

Jesus as Saviour

Jesus is fully God and fully man (John 1:1, 14). Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He paid the price for our sin so that we are forgiven and restored to God. This precious gift of salvation by grace has given us a new identity as God’s children, and the promise of eternal life (2 Cor 5:17). The truth of Jesus as our Saviour calls us to repent and to live with gratitude and humility. We come before Him in awe, with praise and thankful hearts.

Jesus as Lord

Jesus as Saviour and Lord are inseparable truths. We are saved by grace, trusting Him to rescue us from sin and death. This leads us to live with Jesus as our Lord, trusting Him by submitting our lives fully to His authority. This calls us to align our values, priorities, and decisions with His will — even when it is difficult or costly.

It is definitely not easy to call Jesus our Lord. There are parts of our lives we are still clinging onto. Ps Eng Siong illustrated this with the story of the rich young ruler. We often struggle between choosing what is visible and temporary, versus what is unseen and eternal. The world pushes us to focus on material possessions, success, wealth, fame, and comfort in the “here and now”. But Jesus calls us to invest in God’s Kingdom, where the returns are eternal. Ps Eng Siong put this in the equation of spiritual investment, comparing Kingdom ROI and earthly ROI. To reach the eternal horizon, we will need to change our perspective — choosing submission over self-reliance, and obedience over comfort.

Jesus our Saviour gives us new life.Jesus our Lord leads us in transformed living.

The key questions for us are: Have we truly put Him in charge of our lives? Are we willing to fully obey and align our priorities with His will?

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him (Colossians 2:6).

May we not just believe in Jesus, but walk faithfully under His Lordship — living for His glory, and living in hope as we await His glorious return.
