Week 41 (05 - 11 Oct): The Holy Spirit in Us
Last Saturday, Ps Ben spoke about the importance of having the Holy Spirit in us.
I was reminded of Pastor Steven Nicaud’s message in January about the importance of the Holy Spirit. He shared that the Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force to be summoned or manipulated. He is a Person who is the best of friends; a friend who genuinely loves, cares for, protects, and advocates for us (John 14:16–17). How fortunate are we that the Spirit of the living God has chosen to make His dwelling in us, and that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). We are the living tabernacles through whom He desires to reveal Christ, transform lives, and build up the body of Christ.
This is a demonstration of God’s immeasurable love. As Robbie led worship, we sang with much gusto to marvel how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ (Ephesians 3:18–19).
Reflecting on this truth, I realised that in the busyness of life, I can become distracted by my circumstances and responsibilities, striving in my own strength and allowing self-doubt to overshadow the truth of God’s unfailing love.
As I honestly reflect on my walk with Him, I am reminded that my relationship with the Holy Spirit should never be transactional, but intentional. I do recognise that I have grieved the Holy Spirit on numerous occasions, allowing my own desires, distractions, and striving to take precedence over His gentle leading.
The answer is not to strive harder to make the Holy Spirit more present in my life, but to yield more fully to the One who is already within me. He desires to shape my thoughts, guide my decisions, and transform my responses in every situation. His work is not confined to church, prayer, or worship; He desires to work in my everyday life, my relationships, my conversations, and even the quiet places of my heart.
May we make every day a new opportunity to live in oneness with the Holy Spirit. May we allow the Holy Spirit to flow through our lives and for Him to be revealed in all things we pursue. We do all these to honor and glorify Jesus ‘s name. Amen.
