Week 16 (14 - 20 Apr): The Holy Week

Last week was Holy Week, a sacred time when Christians commemorate the seven days leading up to Jesus’s crucifixion. Significant events during this week include:

  1. Palm Sunday – Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, greeted by crowds praising Him.

  2. Maundy Thursday – Jesus shared the Last Supper with His twelve disciples, an intimate moment of love and humility.

  3. Good Friday – The day of the crucifixion, a solemn occasion to mourn and remember Christ’s suffering and sacrifice.

  4. Holy Saturday – A quiet day of reflection, waiting, and entering into the grief of those who mourned His death.

  5. Resurrection Sunday – The day we celebrate Jesus’s resurrection and the joy of new life!

Our church was full of activities throughout the week. On Maundy Thursday, we gathered at TAVA for a beautiful evening of fellowship. We shared a meal together in remembrance of Jesus’s kind and humble act of washing His disciples’ feet—an example for us to follow in serving others with humility.

On Saturday afternoon, the youth gathered once again at TAVA for a social media content training session. That same evening, each home fellowship met for our usual weekly gathering. As always, it was a time of warm fellowship, laughter, and a generous spread of food.

During our home fellowship, we read Luke 12:13–34, where Jesus speaks about greed and trusting in God's provision. In this passage, Jesus tells the parable of the rich fool to show that life is not about accumulating possessions, but about seeking God's kingdom and trusting Him.

Luke 12:15 – “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

We discussed how greed is often hidden or dismissed as a sin. Yet, at its root, greed is wanting more than what we need—driven by deep insecurity and anxiety about not having enough. That fear can lead people to obsess over wealth in a desperate attempt to feel safe and secure.

Jesus challenges this mindset by pointing to nature—how God feeds the birds and clothes the lilies in beauty. In verses 24–29, He reminds us: if God cares for creation in this way, how much more will He provide for us, His beloved children made in His image?

Worry, Jesus says, doesn’t add a single moment to our lives (v.25). So we are invited to make a choice—do we continue to live in fear and anxiety, or do we choose to trust in God’s grace and provision, placing our confidence in Him?

On Resurrection Sunday, Talent Beacon hosted our first 早晨点心 of the year at TAVA. We were blessed with a good turnout of residents from Bukit Batok. Boon Hoe shared a short but powerful message on the crucifixion and resurrection—at the very heart of our faith. Because of Jesus’s death and resurrection, pain, grief, and death have been overcome. In their place, we are offered forgiveness, eternal life, and hope.

We pray that the Easter message will fall on fertile soil—that more will hear the good news, that hearts will be renewed, and lives transformed. We give thanks for the gift of resurrection, and we remember: we do not need to fear, because God is with us.

May this Easter season lift our faith and confidence to new heights.

Blessed Easter to everyone!
