Paul wrote to the Corinthians to address the problems he had heard about and to answer their questions. Living in a city filled with pagan gods and practices, the believers, both Jews and Gentiles, needed clarity about their faith, especially concerning the resurrection. Some among them had already “fallen asleep,” and confusion had begun to spread.
In explaining the resurrection, Paul wisely grounded his message in Scripture and supported it with credible eyewitness accounts from Peter, the twelve disciples, and more than five hundred believers. He then affirmed his own encounter with Christ. As he stated in 1 Corinthians 2:4, his message was not based on persuasive words but on a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.
Paul emphasised that the story of Christ does not end with His death on the cross. Jesus was raised on the third day. This truth is central to affirming God’s power and authority. When someone believes in the resurrection (without having witnessed it firsthand) they step into a deeper experience of God’s truth and power. Such belief awakens us spiritually and strengthens our relationship with the Triune God.
Understanding the resurrection anchors our identity as children of the heavenly King. Christ conquered death, fulfilled His promises and will return for us.
Our facilitator Robbie asked an important question: Do we truly grasp the significance of the resurrection? Often, when sharing the gospel, we focus on Jesus’ crucifixion and the forgiveness of sins. Yet, do we give equal weight to His resurrection and its importance?
Paul reminds us that without the resurrection, our faith would be incomplete.
Let us not limit Christ’s power with earthly doubts or unbelief. Instead, we should daily remember His grace and remember the One who conquered death. Thank Him for choosing us and boldly claim the spiritual inheritance of spending eternity with Him. Our risen Savior, the Promise Keeper and the Way Maker.
