Week 39 (22 - 28 Sep): Eternal Life - Knowing God, Living as One

Looking back at the past week and last evening’s session, I am amazed at how God answers prayers. I had been seeking Him for the blueprints of an intergenerational church, and He has been faithful in sending the right mix of people. This week, I had the joy of worshipping alongside a youth, C, which reminded me of my younger days with the guitar and jamming with a band. During our Home Fellowship at 521, the energy of the children A and A lifted everyone, and we also warmly welcomed aunty J. It gave me a glimpse of a micro church functioning intergenerationally, where bilingual communication and age differences became opportunities to adjust and connect. What could easily have become barriers, such as language and age, instead turned into opportunities to grow with grace, learning to mix and journey together as one. It was a glimpse of what unity can look like.

– Ps D.

Reading John 17, the High Priestly Prayer, allowed us to know Jesus’s heartbeat better. When He prayed for Himself, His focus was not on relief but on glorifying the Father. That reminded us to live with the same purpose, even in trials. He also defined eternal life so clearly: not just heaven later, but knowing God personally now. That gave new meaning to our time in prayer and Scripture, which is part of eternal life beginning here.

When Jesus prayed for His disciples, His request was not for them to be removed from the world but protected from the evil one’s lies. Protection is not escape, but being anchored in truth, and God’s Word keeps us set apart. His prayer for all believers revealed His longing for unity, that we may be one as He and the Father are one. Unity is not just harmony but a powerful witness of God’s love.

In application to our daily life, we should desire to know God more deeply and spend time in His Word and prayer. Eternal life is knowing God, which begins now. We are called to live in unity in family, fellowship, and community, seeking peace and forgiveness. Unity attracts others to Christ. Together, both the glimpse of unity in diversity and the prayer of Jesus in John 17 remind us that eternal life is not only about knowing God personally but also about living as one, so that the world may see His love through us.
